There are so many choices in new trends and technologies to consider when you are planning a renovation – it is overwhelming for homeowners to decide where to begin!  To take the guess work out of your renovation, Ardele Warren from Splashes Bath & Kitchen Centres helps to answer your questions.

I need to start planning my renovation so where should I begin?

First, it is important to understand what you want to accomplish with your renovation and know what direction you want to go in by doing some research.  Ask your friends and family for their tips and ideas and start looking at magazines, pictures and inspirational photos to determine the looks and colours that work for your home.  Splashes Bath & Kitchen Centres' advertise in some great design magazines including BC Home & Garden Magazine or Canadian House & Home Magazine.  Check out their publications for some great ideas and resources!

In major renovation, you will be working with a contractor, multiple companies and perhaps a designer to help you complete your new room or house.  Be sure to pick the companies you work with carefully - find a company that offers a lot of expert consultation, asks you good questions and has the right skills and experience to complete your project.

Typically with renovations, you will do your best to complete your renovation on time and on budget but many times you will go over time and over budget.   going to try to not go off schedule or over budget, but it does happen.  A good way to strategically update your home without the full cost is to take advantage of provincial or municipal grants and rebates for energy efficient choices, which may cut down your overall cost.

And don’t be afraid to try something a little different or bold in your design or fixtures and, most importantly, try to HAVE FUN!
